Alternative Discussion Questions

For groups with some Catholic background.

Every Sycamore session has some time for discussion. For the twenty Core Films, most groups will want to use the standard discussion questions that appear within the films and in the online Session Guides.

The standard questions have been designed so that anyone can enter into the discussion, whatever their background. They do not assume any religious knowledge or faith commitment. Practising Christians will still enjoy them and gain a lot from the discussion, because they touch on many different themes, and allow discussion to develop from the experiences of those involved.

Some groups have requested that we develop some alternative questions that allow participants to explore their own Christian faith in a more explicit way.

These alternative questions are similar to the standard discussion questions, but they assume that people have some familiarity with Catholic faith and practice. It does not mean that everyone in the group needs to be a practising Catholic. But it will be a group that is aimed mainly at Catholics who want to go deeper in their faith, rather than being a group with a majority of non-Catholic enquirers. These questions give more opportunities for people to reflect on their own personal experience of faith.
